“In the hospitality industry, things go quickly. I was recruited by the Shangri-La Group even before I had graduated with my Bachelor Vatel!
As soon as I’d finished my second year internship in China in the Shangri-La Beijing hotel, the chain offered to hire me for the launch of their new hotel in London. That gave me just enough time to finish my studies at Vatel Brussels, work for six months as the Captain in the Parisian Hotel Costes, and there I was in England, for the grand opening of the Shangri-La London Hotel.
I was working in the F&B department as the Tea House Manager, and then as the Banquet Manager. When this new hotel opened, everyone, in England and all over the world in the hospitality industry, knew about it. I stayed at this hotel for a year and a half before I was hired by a Consulting Agency in Hong-Kong.
So here I am since September 2015, as the Project Manager for The Box Partnership, a company that assists restaurant and hotel owners in their daily managerial tasks. I support my clients from A to Z, in designing new restaurants or developing their F&B services.
It’s the same principle as that in our third year Management Practices courses, where we had to respond to problems encountered by some of the school’s hotel partners, who gave us concrete case studies to solve, and where we had to draw up a list of recommendations. This training is something that I use every single day and, because of it, I’m a “cut above” other professionals I work with.

Back at school in between planes, Charlotte reminisces about some of her fondest memories...
“When I was studying at Vatel Brussels, I worked in 5 or 6 different hotels during my practical application weeks, from the Brussels Hilton to the Hotel Bloom! to the Crown Plaza... and from the accommodations department to the restaurant, the front desk, human resources, guest relations, etc.
One of these experiences that really affected me and made me become more mature took place in my first year internship at the Brussels Hotel Amigo: I started off as the Accommodations and Housekeeping Coordinator, and very quickly I was put in charge of the evening shift. I was still really young - and still an intern! So I didn’t see the legitimacy involved in managing people who had worked there for years.
So I decided to play the cards of respect, involvement and mutual assistance. These were things that I learned at Vatel. And this worked! I was able to create strong ties with my teams, both from a human as well as from a professional point of view.
